More information about Direct Payments
Direct Payments put you in control of your home care. You receive money direct from the Local Authority which you can use to pay for the help you need.
A4e advisers are are always there to help you manage your Direct Payments, but the emphasis is firmly on putting you in control.
You are eligible for Direct Payments if:
- you are already getting social services from the council, and
- you have a successful home visit, after which the Local Authority agrees that you need a service which the council should pay for, and
- you are able to understand and run your Direct Payments account (with as much help as you need)
You can use the money to pay personal assistants to help you do things like:*
- Manage and live in your own home
- Go shopping
- Attend college or work
- Hobbies and holidays
*The money only pays for the help you need to do these things, not the actual cost of doing them.
